Stigma of psychiatric diseases basically means that they are different. The patients are considered different from the structure that we call society. Stigma is defined as a sign of disgrace or discredit, which sets a person apart from others. The stigma of mental ilness, although more often related to context than to a person's appearance, remains a powerful negative attribute in all social relations. The difference between a normal and a stigmatised person was a question of perspective, nor reality. Sitgma (like beauty) is in the eye of the beholder, and a body of evidence supports the concept of stereotypes of mental illness.
